Forest Work Camp Update - July 2011
We are currently working to acquire the former Lane County Forest Work Camp building to become the site for our long-term residential community based program. Our proposal was accepted by Lane County in 2010. We had a constructive meeting in January 2011 with County officials. We are currently working togehter with our land use attorney and the Lane County Financial Manager to work out the land use language that needs to be changed in order for us to occupy the facility. Once that is done, we will be one step closer to our vision, a holistic long-term residential program for people with drug addictions. Our community will save a huge amount of money by helping people get the treatment they need. This would also have a positive impact in Lane County by money saved that would otherwise be spent by taxpayers for police services, crime and incareration committed by people with addictions.
The next step is critical, it will go before the Lane County Board of Commissioners for a final vote. We are deeply invested in occupying this building, which will fill a huge void in our community for treatment options.
